Rick Beal Sensei Kyudo seminar Wrapup

March 23, 2020

Over the weekend was the first-ever Kyudo seminar held in Queensland by the Queensland Kyudo Association. Despite a last-minute venue change and participants pulling out due to COVID-19 concerns and restrictions, the seminar went ahead at the Kohokai dojo in Pine Mountain (Matsuyama dojo), with Tom Johnson sensei, Rob Doncaster, Daen Fryar and myself learning under Beal sensei. I believe the seminar was a great success in kicking off at least monthly classes for Kyudo across both Toowoomba and Pine Mountain . We all got a lot out of the seminar and it was a very valuable glimpse into an art that is extremely rare outside of Japan.

We will all look forward to Beal sensei’s return, hopefully next year, and to continue our training in the art over the coming months!
